Currently the State of California and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons guideline recommend no more than 5 liters, or 11 pounds of lipoaspirate (fluid and fat) during Liposuction. Any more than that, and the risk of complications is believed to increase.

We offer Awake and Traditional liposuction under general anesthesia. Awake liposuction, is a safer and more convenient option compared to traditional liposuction. Patients are awake but relaxed with minimal pain. You will receive a cocktail of medication to keep you calm and comfortable during the procedure. The Tumescent, which is a fluid mixture used to numb and reduce bleeding, is also used to minimized pain. More and more people are opting for awake Liposuction. Our Surgeons will go over your past medical or dental experience with anesthesia and procedures to screen if you are an appropriate candidate for awake Liposuction. With Awake Liposuction there is less grogginess, nausea and vomiting.

There are many factors that influence everyone’s outcome. Just as each person is unique, so is their body’s response to healing. For example, the area operated on, the amount of fat removed and the patients comorbidities all effect healing. But in general, while it takes a few months for all the swelling and inflammation to dissipate, you can see a difference almost immediately. The final results become more apparent in the following weeks and months after surgery.

Most patients are able to return to work and light activity within five to seven days of their procedure! Exercise can be resumed within six to eight weeks.
